Imperial Fringe Online Game Chat Session Log March 14th 2004

21:11:51 - Methuslah: Well, shall we get going? As I recall, you were just about to take off, with the arrows on your tail...
21:14:43 - Kit: I had activated the "signaling to the lights device" but I am not sure that it'll work while our engine is firing up. I will prepare to shut down all systems except the signaling device, as soon as we escape orbit and I can safely do that.
21:15:11 - Kraiger: These guys are a small indie bunch - enthusiasts more than anything else. I'd contact them directly...
21:15:35 - Kraiger: (Kraiger is grimly hanging on)
21:16:09 - Kit: (I'll check it out)
21:16:26 - Kit: well Kraiger.let's hope this works.
21:17:40 - Kit: It did work on the first light, but that was with the engine powered down.
21:18:03 - Methuslah: The communication is having no effect - it is probable that the glare of the engine is overpowering it. Make a pilot roll - 8 or more for a godo takeoff.
21:18:43 - Kit: 2D6: 9
21:20:33 - Kit: Hold on Kraiger
21:21:07 - Methuslah: Good takeoff! You glide up quickly on the attitude jets into a high curve, outpacing the arrows who nevertheless remain on your tail. Another pilot roll, 8 or more again.
21:21:27 - Kit: 2D6: 9
21:22:19 - Kit: c'mon baby, c'mon
21:22:27 - Methuslah: You have entered a smooth glide path out of the atmosphere, buring at full speed. One more roll and you will have made orbit.
21:22:38 - Kit: 2D6: 6
21:23:11 - Kit: dang, don't get lost on me here baby, darn cluncky ship
21:25:30 - Methuslah: You've made orbit, but have lost a lot of distnace doing it. Arrows on intercept course; five minutes.
21:26:05 - Kraiger: "DO we still have some of those decoys?"
21:26:12 - Kit: as soon as it is safe to do so, I will power down the engine, activating only the signals fro the lights.
21:26:58 - Kit: we should still have some decoys, but I'll trs the signal first. Prepare a decoy anyway, just to be ready should we need it.
21:27:03 - Methuslah: I think you still have one. You are now in a stable orbit. Four minutes to intercept.
21:27:23 - Kit: ok, powering down all systems
21:27:34 - Kit: 2D6: 5 if you want a roll
21:27:43 - Kit: then activating the signals
21:28:22 - Methuslah: I was going to say, Engineering roll of 7 or more. You've shut down the systems, but damaged soem components doing it. It'll take half an hour to bring them back. Without using engines, you should stay in orbit for three days.
21:28:33 - Methuslah: All systems powered down, so no power for the signals.
21:29:01 - Kit: ok, Ill try to fix enough to get power back to the signals.
21:29:24 - Kit: Kraiger, keep an eye on the lights.
21:30:09 - Kraiger: (Kraiger is preparing to go out of the airlock again)
21:30:22 - Methuslah: Engineering Roll - 5 or more.
21:30:38 - Kit: 2D6: 7
21:31:10 - Methuslah: Systems ready for power-up.
21:31:40 - Kit: activating the signals. Kraiger what are th lights doing?
21:32:07 - Kraiger: (From memory, no way to see from inside, right?)
21:35:12 - Methuslah: The lights at first stand still, then again begin to repeat the signals.
21:35:57 - Kit: following through with the signal sequence for "turn off" that i used on the first light
21:37:07 - Methuslah: The light begins to dim, slowly fading out.
21:37:32 - Kraiger: Hooray! Well done Kit!
21:38:32 - Kit: when they are completely out (I'll check the scanners for energy signatures thrice!) I'll prepare a message with instructions for the "shut off lights sequence" and start broadcasting it on all available channels. We need to inform the fleet as quickly as possible.
21:39:24 - Methuslah: After ten minutes, the lights have all faded to nothing.
21:39:39 - Kit: Kraiger, keep an eye out for any other lights that might show up. I'll start to fix the engine. As long as we don't get an answer from the fleet, we have to try to get closer, so that they can catch our signal.
21:40:10 - Kraiger: "Roger"
21:41:08 - Kit: fixer upper engineering roll 2D6: 11
21:41:29 - Methuslah: All engineering systems fully operational.
21:42:23 - Kit: Good, set course for the fleet, as quickly as possible. I keep braodcasting the instructions until we get some kind of reply from the fleet, that they have received them.
21:44:30 - Methuslah: Pilot roll of 6 or more to break orbit. As yet, there is no indication that you have been heard.]
21:45:52 - Kit: pilot 2D6: 7
21:47:00 - Methuslah: You have broken orbit, and are on course for the fleet flagship. ETA seen hours ten mionutes.
21:47:49 - Kit: keeping up the broadcast and keeping an eye out for any stray lights.
21:48:14 - Kit: Once the ship is safely on course, I dig out the canteen to see if there is any coffe left.
21:49:35 - Methuslah: Some still in the flask.
21:50:16 - Kit: OK, taking a deep sip, ahh, I needed that now. Kraiger, Vance, everything ok with you? Want some?
21:54:12 - Kraiger: No thanks
21:54:45 - Kit: oh well, more for me then.
21:55:17 - Methuslah: COurse plot is firm; no sign of pursuit.
21:55:58 - Kit: If I have some time during the flight, I'll start to sort the data we have from the pyramid and compile it into a legible and useful report.
21:56:35 - Kit: All the time waiting and hoping for any sign from the fleet.
21:57:42 - Methuslah: OK. Still nothing from the fleet, but you do see another point of light leaving the planet, at extreme range.
21:59:02 - Kit: Darn, didn't get them all. I just hope the fleet receives the turn off instructions. Then the lights can at least be dealt with until their source can be shut off for good.
22:03:38 - Methuslah: STill no sign that you have been picked up. YOur comm range is probably a little short.
22:04:23 - Kit: Well, we have to get closer to the fleet, so we keep the course until we can get some kind of signal. Alos monitoring what the light is doing.
22:05:35 - Methuslah: The light is following you, but slowly.
22:07:25 - Kit: Well, we keep going. There are few other options, as informing the fleet is currently the highest priority.
22:08:18 - Methuslah: Two hours to go.
22:09:45 - Kit: I wish we had a language analyst and a good analysis and translation comp. We might be able to figure out a bit more about the code/language of the lights
22:17:17 - Kit: (I hope you don't plan on waiting 2 hours in real time? )
22:18:56 - Kraiger: (Still there Meth?)
22:19:50 - Methuslah: (Sorry about that - I got called away from the computer for a few minutes.)
22:20:14 - Methuslah: You are no approaching the last reported position of the flagship. YOu can now ssee anothe light ahed of you, on the safe course, btu moving more quickly.
22:20:52 - Kit: Any kind of signal from the fleet at all? Anything on the scanners?
22:21:09 - Methuslah: No, to both.
22:21:13 - Kit: Is the light moving towards us or towards the fleet?
22:22:10 - Methuslah: Towards the fleet.
22:22:30 - Kit: faster than us or could we overtake it?
22:30:47 - Methuslah just entered this channel
22:30:49 - Kit: (Meth?)
22:30:53 - Methuslah: You could coneiveably overtake it, but you'd use most of your fuel doing it - with not enough left to brake.
22:32:06 - Kit: that is not a good option. Maybe we can somehow distract it or catch its attention. How far is it away?
22:33:11 - Methuslah: About five thousand miles, and accelerating.
22:33:36 - Kit: close enough that it might notice a decoy explosion or get tickled by a pgmp shot?
22:37:05 - Methuslah: The PGMP would be well out of range; the decoy might attract its attention.
22:37:35 - Kraiger: Are you sure you wanna do that Kit - we're all out of help out here...
22:37:37 - Kit: ok, we have to try it. Kraiger, ready to set of the decoy?
22:38:43 - Kit: We have a way to shut the lights off. It worked fine twice so far. There is no reason to believe it wonT work again. We do not know, if the fleet has recieved our signal, so if we can distract the light from the fleet and then turn it off, it will help them.
22:39:43 - Kraiger: "You're right OK, lets do it" (Kraiger prepares decoy)
22:40:38 - Kit: set it off, as soon as you are ready and we are far enough away not to get caught in the burst
22:43:15 - Methuslah: Decoy ready to fire. The explosion will have a chance of damaging the hull, unless you wait to long - the arrow is pulling away. Your decision is required.
22:43:58 - Kit: we can risk some damage, we have to distract the light.
22:44:30 - Methuslah: OK. Kragier, make a roll - 6 or more.
22:45:16 - Kraiger: 2D6: 8
22:45:28 - Kraiger: "Bombs away!"
22:45:48 - Kit: OK, hold on
22:47:15 - Methuslah: The bomb goes off, and you see a blinding flash of light.....
22:47:19 - Methuslah: More next week.......
22:47:57 - Kit: oooowww not again
22:48:14 - Kit: when are we finally going to finish this business?
22:48:35 - Methuslah: Possibly next week, or the week after.
22:48:51 - Kit: or the week after or the wee after that?
22:49:13 - Methuslah: No, I actually think one or two weeks.
