Imperial Fringe Online Game Chat Session Log July 27th 2003
19:34:16 - Kit: Fine with me. If I recall correctly, I was just trying to break the security code on the comm console, so that we can contact the fleet.
19:35:22 - Kit: While Kraiger was trying to decode the data crystal we found on the commander.
19:35:52 - Vance:
19:36:19 - Kit: The commander who is currently in medical low berth with command having passed to us as the original second in command has apparently commited suicide?, and there were the strange alien? lights/Lifeforms.
19:38:02 - Methuslah: That's right Kit - you were attempting to crack the code.
19:38:59 - Kit: Probably more likely disassembling the console and reassembling it without the security elements, afetr all, I have been at if the better part of two months
19:41:36 - Kit: I'll keep trying to get through the security block to reach the fleet.
19:42:23 - Methuslah: OK - Make a Computer roll - say 5 or over, to crack the code.
19:42:45 - Kit: 2D6: 7
19:43:00 - Vance: reading it now, ref.
19:44:52 - Methuslah: OK. Kit, you have past the first level of encryption. The hard part comes now - you'll need a fingerprint to fool ther computer.
19:45:44 - Kit: Is there some way to get a model from the commander?
19:46:17 - Methuslah: Not from his body, not while in stasis.
19:46:38 - Kit: Like either making a mold or somehof taking off the outer skin layer (that shouldn't harm him)?
19:47:44 - Methuslah: Agreed, it wouldn't - but while in cold sleep you can't get at his body.
19:47:49 - Kit: OK, the data of his fingerprints must be stored in the database somewhere, If I cannot override the system with some kind of emergency code, I try to find the data somewhere, rig up some apparatus to insert behind the print scanner and thus try to fool the system.
19:48:33 - Kit: Also his fingerprints probably are all over the room, so I might be able to scan a good example from there somehow.
19:49:05 - Methuslah: The information is avaliable in the medical database, and you can use you Imperial certification as an MD to get access to them - or you can get scans from around the room.
19:49:16 - Methuslah: How would you rig up the fingerprint system?
19:49:52 - Kit: "What a $&%§Z System, they should have some kind of emergency override if the commander is disabled.!"
19:50:32 - Kit: OK, There is probably a print scanner on the console. That analyzess the fingerprint and transmit the optical data in some manner, right?
19:51:25 - Kit: If I can figure out the manner in which the data is transmitted, I can probably unscrew the scanning pad, insert some kind of connection and then transfer the print-data via my computer.
19:51:26 - Methuslah: That's right - the panel is next to the screen - just large enough for his index finger.
19:51:55 - Kit: Somehow like inserting a bug in a telephone line or somesuch.
19:52:27 - Methuslah: That will work fine - it'll take an Engineering Roll - 6 or more.
19:52:35 - Kit: OK, carefully opening the panel to get at the wiring behind it. Analyzing it as much as possible.
19:52:44 - Kit: 2D6: 10
19:53:19 - Kit: Oh yes, and Kit'll be cursing under her breath all the while.
19:53:38 - Kit: "Would someone please get me some coffee!"
19:53:49 - Methuslah: OK! The system works properly, and the communications panel lights up. You've tricked it into giving you full-level access.
19:54:35 - Kit: Fine. I'll try to contact the fleet transmitting emergency codes and requesting immediate contact.
19:54:36 - Vance: " ... failure ... approach ... "
19:55:29 - Kit: I'll send out a warning concerning what has happened here and about the Zhodani Attack at trane and repeat the warning while listening for replies.
19:55:33 - Methuslah: THe radio lights up - incoming distress call.
19:56:03 - Kit: I will ESPECIALLY mention the corrosive atmosphere and the strange lights in my warning.
19:56:23 - Kit: Distress call? From the Fleet? Can I identify the sender?
19:56:35 - Methuslah: You cannot seem to send outside the atmosphere - intereference is still too high.
19:56:54 - Methuslah: The call is close - tracers indicates 15 kilometers to the north-west on an appraoch trajectory.
19:57:03 - Vance: " ... power ... vector ... "
19:57:54 - Kit: "Frik darn (%&$ .." I'll make a record of the warning and sent it for repeat and continuous sending, at least theyll get the message as soon as the interference clears up.
19:58:36 - Vance: "MilBase thi ... power failure ... there?"
19:58:40 - Kit: Trying to contact the approaching signal "Distress signal, please respond, please respond. I am not reading you please repeat!"
19:58:50 - Methuslah: OK - the record is running.
19:59:20 - Methuslah: Vance - you can boost your power, but the comm will then nrun out after twenty seconds. Kit - your receivers are at full output.
19:59:25 - Vance: "MilBase my airraft is ... landing, over."
19:59:48 - Kit: "The military base is not fully operational, possible hostile situation, if possible, try to land (insert direction from base where there was no corrosion) from the base. Please state your problem!
20:00:31 - Vance: "Milb
20:00:45 - Vance: "MilBase, how hostile?"
20:00:53 - Kit: "Base to Airraft, please try to land outside the base, the landing facilities here are not operational."
20:01:28 - Methuslah: YOuVance - you can make out the ruins of the base just below - you will be landing about a hundred meters away.
20:01:36 - Kit: 2Unidentifed contact, possibly hostile. Try to land away from the base in the direction of (insert direction). Please identify yourselves.
20:02:18 - Kit: "To Air Raft. Atmosphere corrosive to metal, try to cover all exposed metal parts!"
20:02:28 - Vance: "MilBase, hitting now. C'mon, up ... "
20:02:59 - Kit: "Do you require medical assistance?"
20:03:02 - Methuslah: Vance - you are coming in now - you can try and turn for the base strip if you wish, or make for the dirt.
20:03:46 - Vance: (static)
20:03:57 - Vance: (I'll try for the strip. I need an airlock.)
20:04:39 - Kit: (Meth, I try to connect the stations comm into my suits comm for a stronger signal, then prepare to suit up.) Kraiger, I'll check on our new arrivals. Can you get the personell here together for a roll call?
20:05:26 - Kit: To Air Raft: "Do you need medical or technical Assistance? Stay in your craft, I will come and pick you up!"
20:05:31 - Methuslah: OK - the strip on first inspected seems OK - but there is a lot of small debris on it. You ship grounds - just - but the impact causes severe damage. The arilock is jus a short dash away.
20:06:01 - Kit: Air Raft, please respond!
20:06:05 - Vance: (am I in a vacc suit?)
20:06:32 - Methuslah: Yes.
20:07:24 - Vance: (I run for the airlock.) "Down. Entering airlock number (I assume there's a number there.)
20:08:04 - Kit: Air Raft, can you read me. Please respond! Remain at your current position, You will be picked up!
20:08:30 - Methuslah: There should be - but it is obscured - the lock seems to have some kind of rust over it. It barely cycles at all, and the machinery is groaning audbily in the thin atmoshpere
20:08:53 - Vance: (can I remain in the airraft? I assumed it was breaking up around me.)
20:09:11 - Kit: Fu.... &%§ Doesn't seem to be able to hear me. Kariger. Hold the station, I'm going out to find those guys.
20:10:25 - Methuslah: Afraid not - the airraft is in danger of destruction - and atmospheric pressure is dropping rapidly - probablyan oxygen leak.
20:10:25 - Kit: (Heading for the airlock. Checking my suit and sealing up all exposed metal parts again. Continue to call air raft) Air Raft, please respond!
20:10:57 - Kit: Air Raft please respond. Can you identify the nature of your immediate problems?
20:11:48 - Vance: (if I can get the base frequency on my suit) "MilBase, I'm on the strip, but there is no number for the lock, I don't know where I am."
20:12:58 - Kit: Ah finally, please remein where you are. What side of the base are you at, North, south?
20:13:00 - Vance: (if the machinery sounds like it is breaking I'll wait)
20:13:41 - Methuslah: <You are on the south side of the base.>
20:13:50 - Methuslah: The machiery is damged - but most of the base looks to be a ruin.
20:14:04 - Kit: Do you have vacc suits and do you require medical attention? How many people are on the raft and pleas identify yourselves. (Heading for where I think the raft landed)
20:14:21 - Vance: "my immediate problems are that the atmosphere seems to have turned corrosive and I'm not prepared. I'm on the south side."
20:15:10 - Kit: I'm heading for you, If you have any kind of spray on paint or oil, cover all exposed metal parts of your suit. The corrosion only affects metal.
20:16:18 - Kit: Could you identify yourselves and the reason for your presence here?
20:16:51 - Kit: (I'm heading for the south side as fast as I can)
20:17:55 - Vance: (anything laying around or in the airraft that I can use to cover myself?) "vance stargate with the polar base. who are you?"
20:18:48 - Methuslah: There is some spray paint for samples - not much, but enough for your suit.
20:19:06 - Kit: Baroness Messalina Kitiara of Regina IISS, currently trying to sort out the problems on this Base. I'll be with you shortly.
20:19:28 - Vance: (vance looks at the corrosion around him. based on its color and texture can he tell what is causing it?)
20:19:37 - Kit: Mr Vance Stargate, has the polar base experienced similar problems?
20:20:02 - Kit: We have not been able to get into contact with it since the trouble here started.
20:20:28 - Methuslah: It resembles what has been happening to some of your moniteroing stations, up near the base.
20:21:56 - Vance: ("baroness? here? typical. royalty shows up and everything falls apart.") "can't say, ma'am. just flying along and it all starts to fall apart."
20:25:05 - Kit: (Hmmpf, just for your information, the station was allready broken when I arrived here. I'm trying to fix the problem). As far as we can tell the corrosion started several hours ago and caused the power plant to blow up. There have also been strange lights, maybe intelligent that have caused problems if approached with agression. I only arrived after the station was already in the state it is in now. I'll be with you shortly and fill you in on what I know.
20:25:56 - Kit: (How much longer till I reach him, and is there any sign of the strange lights anywhere on the base?)
20:26:36 - Methuslah: You should be outside in about five minuts - no sign of the lights.
20:26:40 - Vance: (how's my suit?)
20:27:29 - Vance: "strange lights, eh?"
20:27:36 - Kit: I'll be with you in about five minutes Mr. Stargate.
20:28:01 - Methuslah: Your protection appears to be working - but you notice some of the paint beginning to wear away.
20:29:05 - Kit: Unidentifed swarms of light, unaffected by the weapons the commander here has tried to hit them with, possibly intelligent or controlled by intelligence. Possibly a psychic phenomena. Seem to be able to pass through matter, do not show up at all on any type of scan and cause a kind of death like stasis if they come into contact with humans.
20:29:34 - Kit: Seem to show up at random intervals and react agressive to agressive behaviour.
20:30:33 - Kit: You do not happen to be an expert on neurological systems do you?
20:30:47 - Vance: (staring at the paint peeling off of his suit) "psychic lights. great."
20:32:30 - Kit: Mr Vance, Has the polar station received any strange signals or other strange data from your sensors lately?
20:33:45 - Vance: (pause) "yes, now that I think of it. some of our monitoring stations were beginning to corrode in a manner similar to what I see now."
20:34:47 - Kit: How far were the monitoring stations from the base, when did the cosrrosion start and did youd receive any other signals from them before or after the corrosion started?
20:36:05 - Kit: As far as I can currently tell, the corrosive effect started near or at the base and was carried by the wind in the direction of (indert direction here) I cannot tell how far the effect was carried.
20:38:05 - Kit: Also i do not have the slightest Idea what could be causing it. I have never heared of or encountered anything like it before.
20:39:07 - Kit: There have been many casualties on the base here. Most caused by the explosion of the powerplant, some fell into a stasis after coming into contact with the lights.
20:39:50 - Kit: (Am I at the air raft yet?)
20:41:08 - Methuslah: The airlock is cycling, and you can see the airraft with a figure standing next to it.
20:41:20 - Vance: "no. no ma'am, don't know anything about neurological systems."
20:42:00 - Vance: (head for the airlock)
20:43:00 - Kit: (A figure in a spacesuit approaches the Raft) Mr. Vance? I am Baroness, Dr. Messalina Kitiara of Regina. Please take whatever essential stuff from your raft that you can carry an accompany me to the sealed part of the base.
20:44:02 - Kit: We can talk better there. May I ask what kind of qualifications you have? We are short on personell here and can use any helping hand.
20:44:36 - Kit: (the figure in the spacesuit mentions to you to follow)
20:44:55 - Kit: (then heads off through the ruined base)
20:45:37 - Vance: (if vance has anything he'll grab it and go.) (vance is somewhat tall.) "vance stargate, prospector. let's talk inside."
20:46:22 - Kit: Mr. Vance, if you are from the Polar Base, can you tell me if the interferences on communications are usual for this planet? We have been trying to reach the fleet, but we cannot get through. Have you had any contact with the fleet lately?
20:46:47 - Methuslah: <You have neverf experienced comm problems in the past.>
20:48:13 - Vance: "no, everything has been largely routine until today. as for talking to the fleet, I don't, and I don't think anyone else at the plle does either."
20:49:25 - Kit: The we'll have to assume that the comm jam is part of the problem here. Apparently it started about the time that the lights first appeared and the corrosion started.
20:50:10 - Kit: (The spacesuit figure moves ahead of you in a manner that suggest she is not only used to wearing spacesuits but also to moving in various G-environments)
20:50:58 - Kit: If you are a prospector Mr. Stargate, are you any good at chemistry?
20:51:40 - Vance: ("a working baroness. a doctor. hm.") (vance moves like he isn't wearing a vacc suit.)
20:52:46 - Vance: "I've seen quite a bit of corrosion, and I'm trying to recognize what I see. "
20:54:07 - Kit: I have not been able to figure out what it is. It seems to affect all kinds of metals, even special compuonds and hardened stuff, but it does not seem to affect other material at all. I cannot think of anything that might cause such an effect.
20:54:08 - Methuslah just entered this channel
20:54:34 - Vance: (vance should have some relevant chemistry skill)
20:54:45 - Methuslah: It does seem somewhat familar, but nothing you can put your finger on. You'd need to spend some time in the geological databanks at Polar Base.
20:55:11 - Kit: If you have any Idea what it might be or how we might find out more about it, please say so.
20:57:15 - Kit: (comm to Kariger) Kraiger, anything new down there? New sighting of lights?
20:57:19 - Vance: "haven't a clue. I'd have to work on it." vance may not have a database, but if he can he'll improvse a few experiments and see what he sees.
20:58:24 - Kit: Well the base's facilities are currently somewhat limited, but I'll see that you can get as much equipment as we can provide here.
20:58:53 - Methuslah: "NOthing new, Kit."
20:59:14 - Kit: (while outside I'll try to contact our fallen shuttle. There is still some people there and I'll try to get them inside the sealed part of the station!)
20:59:44 - Methuslah: No response from the shuttle.
21:00:01 - Vance: "you have other people out there?"
21:00:06 - Kit: Kraiger, can you send a few men out to get the pilot and Deno from the shuttle? How is Steward? Has he recovered yet?
21:01:10 - Kit: We crashlanded with a shuttle a few hours ago, surprised by the corrosion much as you have. Kraiger, I get no response from the shuttle, it may be just their comm down, I'm going to check on them. Mr. Stargate, do you want to accompany me?
21:01:43 - Methuslah: "STewart is out of the cold sleep, but is sleeping - I thought it best to leave him. I'll get a team out to the shuttle."
21:01:49 - Kit: Due to some immediate urgent problems we have not yet been able to get out to them to pick them up. The Commander did not want to allow it.
21:01:50 - Vance: "no. let's go."
21:02:28 - Kit: Good.Kraiger, we are heading for the shuttle, keep your men inside for now. If we need help, we'll call in.
21:02:39 - Vance: (anything laying around to use to cover the metal on our suits?)
21:02:50 - Kit: (Heading off towards the shortest route to the shuttle)
21:04:02 - Methuslah: Nothing that isn't corroded - and your paint is looking a bit dodgy.
21:04:03 - Kit: Try this (hands Vance a can of instant spray on band aid) it's elastic, transparent and has proven quite useful in this case.
21:04:35 - Vance: "is there enough for everyone out there?"
21:04:53 - Kit: It won't last forever, but should be sufficient for now. The corrosive effect seems to be slowing down. It was much stronger when we first landed.
21:05:29 - Kit: I still have some. It should last if we don't take too long.
21:06:02 - Vance: "then off we go."
21:06:16 - Vance: (spray some on)
21:06:55 - Kit: You only need to cover exposed metal parts. At least up to now the corrosion has not affected plastic at all.
21:07:53 - Kit: (how much estimated time to the shuttle)
21:08:49 - Methuslah: YOu should be there in five minutes. The shuttle is barely recognizable, and you can see no sign of life.
21:08:55 - Methuslah: Vance - the spray appears to be working.
21:09:26 - Vance: (run faster)
21:09:32 - Kit: (While moving around the base I keep my eyes out for anything unusual, anything that might be the cause of the lights or the corrosion, I am pretty sure thet there must be something to be seen)
21:10:29 - Kit: Darn. Where are they. (jogging faster, keeping an eye on the ground for possible tracks, maybe they walked off)
21:11:23 - Kit: Darn Wind probably blew off all tracks.
21:11:38 - Methuslah: Reaching the wreckage, you see nothing - no signs of tracks, or the people you left behind.
21:12:20 - Kit: (I'm checking what is left of the shuttle thoroughly. There should still be at least one cold berth.
21:12:32 - Vance: (check all the corners)
21:13:09 - Methuslah: The cold berth is in place, but is empty - but no sign of corrosion is present.
21:13:13 - Kit: Kraiger! the shuttle seems to be deserted. No tracks or signs of our companions. But that darn wind may have erased any tracks.
21:13:31 - Kit: Is ma plastic bag with henry still there?
21:13:42 - Vance: "are you sure someone was here?"
21:14:11 - Kit: Yes, There was someone inside the berth and two other people, the shuttle pilot and another passenger.
21:14:26 - Methuslah: Tucked away under the remains of a control panel, but it is still here.
21:14:53 - Kit: We had covered everything essential against the corrosion. They should have held out.
21:15:37 - Kit: Ah, at least henry is still here (pulls out a sealed plastic bag from below a panel that looks as if there is something cat like in there. It isn't moving)
21:16:25 - Kit: (I'll take a good look at the interior. Maybe they left a message somewhere. Are there any electronic parts still functional?)
21:16:49 - Vance: "well .... while we're out here, is there any equipment here we should bring in?"
21:17:42 - Kit: If we can still find anything useful (I look around fro anything that might still be used. And any sign of our comarades.
21:18:10 - Kit: Is the shuttle's scanner still working?
21:19:02 - Methuslah: None of the equipment is functional - the decay has slowed, but is still progressing.
21:19:45 - Kit: (mumbling under her breath) If I find the fu... idiot responsible for this destruction of life and machinery, I'm gonna shove the biggest wrench I acn find down his stupid ass!"
21:20:17 - Vance: "if that's it, then we need to head back in, now."
21:20:37 - Kit: Kraiger, there is no trace of the people here. We are coming in. Maybe they walked to the base and we can find them there!
21:21:01 - Kit: Yup, let's go back (takes tha plastic bag with the cat thing along)
21:21:24 - Vance: "pet?"
21:21:51 - Kit: So Mr Stargat, and Idea yet, what might be causing this?
21:22:03 - Kit: Who Henry? Well yes, kind of.
21:22:31 - Kit: It's a robotic pet.
21:23:04 - Kit: (heading back for the base while keeping a lookout fro tracks or any other unusual signs)
21:23:55 - Vance: "no, I don't. when we get back and I finish suit maintenance I'll see what I can do."
21:24:48 - Kit: (leading the way through the base to the airlock for the lower level)
21:25:59 - Kit: Along the way I use whatever I have to paint messages on the walls with directions, in case our missing comarades are stumbling around the base somewhere so that they can find the seal to the lower level.
21:26:02 - Methuslah: You make your way through the decaying corridors to your bunker. The rust is slowing, but still present, and the walls will not last much longer.
21:27:09 - Kit: The Bunker is below ground. How long will it be able to last? Also I check the wass for stasis problems. If they come down, could the entrance to the bunker be covered in rubble?
21:27:16 - Vance: (one the way in vance grabs a few samples from various kinds of metal)
21:28:29 - Methuslah: The marines have managed to protect the bunker, and keep it insulated from the outside air. The only immediate danger is the base falling in, which will block the entreance - but the rate of decay means that would only be temporary.
21:29:10 - Kit: Is there any way of preventing this through a controlled collapse of the upper structure around the bunker?
21:29:43 - Vance: the screen just went totally blank
21:30:08 - Methuslah: I had the same trouble. Kit, are you there?
21:30:17 - Kit: just keep typing. This has happened before
21:31:29 - Vance: (vance glances at the non-metalic materials. any corrosion or etching or discoloration?
21:32:05 - Methuslah: The non-metalic materials seem to be affected in the same way as the rest of the base - though more slowly.
21:32:14 - Kit: You can find the chat log under http://www.chantry.de/chat/chat_history.htm
21:34:47 - Kit: So what about a controlled collapes to keep the entrance to the bunker clear?
21:35:33 - Kit: Kraiger. Have you finished a roll call yet? How many people are left on the base, how many of them can still walk?
21:35:37 - Methuslah: That might work - but you'll need explosives and a trained team.
21:36:17 - Kit: Kraiger, Check your men, any demolition experts and explosives available?
21:36:53 - Kit: Hmm, Mr. Stargate, as a prospector, do you know how to handle explosives?
21:36:58 - Methuslah: "I;ll cehck around - we;ll have the gear, and should have the skils."
21:37:15 - Vance: (vance heads on inside, meets who he needs to meet, cleans his suit, and checks his samples. does the corrosion cese once inside?
21:37:50 - Kit: I want to clear away the upper structure around the bunker entrance, before it collapses by itself an blocks the entrance.
21:38:13 - Vance: "nope, never played with those toys. given the lack of structural integrity around here may I recommend not blowing things up?"
21:38:36 - Methuslah: There is no corrosion in the bunker - the marines were on the ball.
21:39:01 - Kit: Kraiger, the corrosion seems to affect non metal materials as well, only more slowly. We may need to evacuate the base ebentually.
21:39:53 - Kit: Mr. Vance, can you help me contact the polar base? I would like to know if they are experiencing any problems as well or if they are able to contact the fleet. Who is in command on the Polar Base?
21:41:13 - Kit: (Once inside the bunker, Kit takes off her helmet and you can see a woman in her mid fifties with very short´, slightly graying hair and a fiery sparkle in her eyes.
21:41:53 - Kit: Mr. Vance, this is Lt. Colonel Kraiger, acting commander of this base.
21:42:17 - Vance: (vance is an older man. he tends to look and think before he says anything.)
21:42:19 - Kit: Kraiger, any sign of the lights while we were gone?
21:43:24 - Methuslah: "Hello! Nice weather we're having, eh! Nothing new to report, Kit."
21:43:27 - Vance: "colonel kraiger." (shakes his hand) I'm one of the civies at the northern base, just crashed here a m;inute ago."
21:44:13 - Vance: "alright, I'll try to contact the northern base. where's the radio?"\
21:44:14 - Kit: (Showing Vance to whatever laboratory facilities we have in the bunker) Mr. Stargate, this is as much as we can offer now. If you can figure out something about this corrosion, that would be great.
21:44:37 - Kit: (in the commanders office, please follow me. (leading the way)
21:45:23 - Vance: (when he gets a chance vance will separate out the samples he took. are they still corroding, or have they stabilized?)
21:45:37 - Methuslah: The lab facilities in the bunker are very limited, and the database is almost non-existent - most of the facilities were in the main base. The commander;s office is still untouched, the radio still operational.
21:46:35 - Kit: I assume thet the message to the fleet is still being jammed? Can I determine a cause fro this?
21:47:08 - Methuslah: it isn't jamming - just communications problems. The upper atmosphere seems to be affected.
21:48:08 - Kit: Mr Vance, what do you know about the atmospheric makeup of this planet? What could be causing the comm problems in the upper atmosphere?
21:48:32 - Vance: "PoleBase, this is vance, please respond."
21:48:33 - Kit: Can we reach the Polar base?
21:48:49 - Methuslah: There is no reply.
21:50:00 - Kit: Mr. Stargate, you probably know a bit about this planet. If we have to evacuate the base, is there anyplace we could reach that is somewhat safe?
21:50:00 - Vance: (is there a link, i.e. their system indicates it is on but they're just not responding, or is it dead, i.e. there's no indication of anytingn at all?)
21:51:10 - Methuslah: There is nothing at all at present.
21:51:11 - Vance: "you know, yesterday I could have told you something about the atmosphere here. now I can't. offhand I'd say that a chemical change of this magnitude would generate a lot of electrostatic activity."
21:52:09 - Kit: So the communication problems may be a result of the chemical effect around here?
21:53:39 - Vance: "total guess on my part, but yes. corrosion does involve electric effects."
21:53:49 - Kit: I guess we'll have to find out what is causing this corrosion. There must be a source for it somewhere. Please do what you can Mr. Stargate.
21:53:58 - Methuslah: The communicator bursts into life briefly.
21:54:12 - Vance: "Pole
21:54:18 - Kit: (hit record)
21:54:22 - Methuslah: "Mayday! Mayday! Any station respond! May..."
21:54:27 - Methuslah: And then fades away again.
21:54:27 - Vance: "PoleBase is either slovenly drunk or dead."
21:54:49 - Kit: Any indication of where the signal came from?
21:54:57 - Vance: (does vance recognize the voice?)
21:55:10 - Kit: Maybe the signal just doesn't get through.
21:55:52 - Kit: "Here is Planetary station, please respond. What is your emergency?"
21:55:56 - Methuslah: The voice sounds like the deputy communications officer, but has a strange quality to it that you cannot quite put your finger on.
21:56:45 - Vance: (deputy comm officer of who and where?)
21:57:19 - Methuslah: (Of your Polar Base)
21:58:30 - Methuslah: Do you mind if we call a halt there for the night - I'm getting rather tired - its been a long day.
21:59:01 - Kit: What id I do mind? Would it make a difference?
21:59:26 - Vance: no problem.
21:59:34 - Methuslah:
21:59:51 - Vance: I see now what is meant by cliffhanger.
22:00:12 - Kit: Thought as much
22:00:19 - Methuslah: I'll let you know about next week's game by Wednesday - I expect it will still be on, but am not sure.
22:00:27 - Kit: Well Vance, as Cliffhangesr go, this one is rather harmless!
22:00:32 - Methuslah: OK. See you!
22:00:53 - Kit: I hope you'll stay with us Vance, we can use another man. What about Kraiger, will he be around again next week?
22:01:05 - Methuslah: I'm not sure.
22:01:18 - Methuslah: Bye!
22:01:38 - Kit: Now what am I to do without the gun toting maniac?=
22:02:06 - Vance: this is pretty good. thanks, methuslah.
22:02:23 - Methuslah just logged off.
22:02:28 - Vance: yes, I'll stay.
22:02:41 - Kit: Meth is certainly a good gamemaster for keeping you on your toes!
22:03:00 - Kit: If you have read even part of the logs, you know what I mean.
22:03:31 - Vance: yes, I have, and yes I do. our situation looks bad.
22:03:40 - Kit: Thinking that we only came to this system to deliver a message to the Admiral!
22:04:16 - Kit: It seems our situation always looks bad. But I'm pretty sure we'll find a way out of it. I always do.
22:04:59 - Kit: I just prefer having a ship under me and not a planetbound station that is falling apart at the seams
22:05:42 - Vance: not just the station, the planet.
22:06:02 - Kit: the planet too? Do you know anything that I don't?
22:06:55 - Vance: no. but for an entire atmosphere to suddenly turn like that indicates a major problem.
22:07:25 - Kit: It seems to be alocalized effect, that is unless something similar is happening at the polar station right now.
22:08:19 - Vance: we'll see next week. time to go.
22:08:20 - Kit: And there are the strange lights who's behaviour indicates some kind of controllig intelligence, though they seem to have disappeared after they were no longer greeted with agression.
22:08:49 - Vance: I wonder if they're terraforming.
22:08:53 - Kit: yes, hopefully. We have been missing too many games lately.
22:09:46 - Kit: Maybe. But the former Commander was not into trying to establish communications.
22:10:24 - Kit: His kind of communication was shooting at everything that moved, even if his weapons obvipusly had no effect whatsoever on the lights.
22:12:08 - Vance: we'll see if we can do better. good game, thanks for taking me in. see you next week.
22:12:53 - Kit: I'm pretty sure we can do better. After all I'm a scout, trained for thet kind of stuff, not amilitary man who is just trained to shoot.
22:13:11 - Kit: see you next week.
