Imperial Fringe Online Game Chat Session Log April 13th 2003

19:47:47 - Methuslah: Good idea. As I recall, last session you were about to blast the door.
19:48:27 - Kit: Blast? I thought we were looking for an easier entrance on the other side 'afore blasting anything.
19:49:24 - Kit: But considering that Kraiger is teher, it'll probably be something more like a blasting anyways
19:50:07 - Methuslah: According to the log, you had just asked Kraiger if he wanted to blast the door when we ended the session.
19:50:47 - Kit: I must have been out of my mind? Oh well.
19:51:49 - Kit: We did get a description of the basic station layout from the pilot, so we should know approximately where the medical station would be.
19:52:00 - Kraiger: Well, lets have a go at opening it "normallY', but given the corrosion and the fact that the dome is holed, a blast is prolly going to be the only way...
19:52:12 - Kit: Maybe we should try to find an entrance as close to there as possible?
19:53:27 - Kit: Do you think you can "blast" it with minimal damage to the surrounding structure and anyone who might be close on the other side?
19:53:43 - Methuslah: The door seals seem to have jammed shut with corrosion. Given the state of the atmosphere, corrosion of the door is likely soon anyway.
19:54:35 - Kit: Sigh. Oh well Kraiger, go ahead and do your worst.
19:56:31 - Kraiger: Here goes ( 2D6: 2)
19:56:39 - Kraiger: d'oh-oh-oh
19:56:59 - Kraiger: Well, you asked for my worst
19:57:00 - Kit: (I didn't meat THAT kind of worst!!!)
19:58:22 - Methuslah: (Hmm....such a bad roll will require maximum GM creativity!)
19:59:07 - Kit: (maybe he just got his thumb caught in the trigger?)
19:59:27 - Methuslah: The gun pulls down and to the left as you fire it, and you blast a huge hole in the ground. The resulting explosion of dust sends you all flying, and the air is so filled with dust that you momentarily cannot see, though it is slowly clearing.
20:00:18 - Kit: Well I've heared of bad shots who couldn't hit a barn door from 2 yards away... I always thought that was just a joke though!
20:00:45 - Kraiger: *mutter mubmble* the corrosion must be getting to this too...
20:00:54 - Kraiger: Lets try that again ( 2D6: 9)
20:00:58 - Kit: You OK Kraiger?
20:02:52 - Methuslah: This time the aim is good, and a huge hole appears in the door. The bolt appears to have gone straight through, and has blasted another hole in the second door behind the wall, unsealing the airlock. The interior of the lock shows obvious signs of corrosion, and has obviously bee exposed to the outsie atmosphere for some tiem.
20:04:27 - Kit: Looks like the path is clear. Let's see what we can find here. According to the pilot there were about 400 people in this complex.
20:05:46 - Kraiger: (remind me - do we have the cold berth with us?)
20:05:59 - Kit: (comm to pilot) Are there any other settlements near, that could be reached by someone travelling on foot or with a ground vehicle?
20:06:25 - Kit: (no, we have to find something to carry it with first, a cargo lifter or somesuch)
20:07:15 - Methuslah: "Negative. The only other settlement on the planet is a small science station near the North Pole - a good three thousand kilometers."
20:07:59 - Kit: So any survivors probably did not try to hike there on foot. The must still be here.
20:08:45 - Kit: Lets get going Kraiger. Medical should be in the general direction of (insert instructions here) and keep a look out for a cargo lifter.
20:08:58 - Kraiger: OK, I'll take point (heading in, using recon skill to avoid danger)
20:09:27 - Kit: (I'll follow behind)
20:09:42 - Bailey: (same)
20:10:10 - Methuslah: The base is a wreck. The interior walls are beginningto degrade as well, although the process appears to be slowing. Whilst trudging down a corridor near to Medical, however, you see some footprints in the dust on the floor.
20:10:25 - Kit: Right behind you. Let's move carefully. The corrosion may have caused severe structural damage. (I will keep an eye on the surrounding structure including floor and ceiling as we move to spot any critical points in time)
20:11:14 - Kit: (Bailey, here?, I thought you were still frozen?)
20:11:23 - Bailey: (am I?)
20:11:51 - Kit: (Thats why we are looking for medical, there was a malfunction ihn your low berth)
20:12:47 - Methuslah: (Yes, I fear so. Your berth malfunction and a medical unit will be required to retrive you safely,
20:12:54 - Kit: (looking at footprints) These look kinda fresh. At least someone seems to have survived whatever happened here.
20:12:57 - Kraiger: (follow the footprints) - this is looking bad - if we don't find a way off this place soon, we're going to be fried!
20:13:57 - Kit: I wouldn't give us up so easily. Let's find a cargo lufter and check out medical to revive Bailey first. Then see who we can find here.
20:16:01 - Methuslah: As you reach Medical, you find the door forced open, and the room empty -ransacked. The footprints go through the room, and out the other door into another corridor.
20:16:54 - Kit: Now this is weird. Why would someone rensack medical? (Is there enough equipment left to revive our stiff?)
20:18:21 - Kraiger: Ransacked? Panic maybe?
20:19:14 - Methuslah: Anything that could be taken is gone - light equipment,, drugs, the works. Only the heavy equipment remains, and it is beginnibng to corrode.
20:20:07 - Kit: (Would that be sufficiant to revive our comarade? maybe with the medical stuff from the shuttle?)
20:21:31 - Kraiger: Kit, I'm going to try and find a working lifter to get the cold berth over here - I'll leave you to find the medical stuff - OK?
20:21:36 - Kit: (How are the radiation levels inside the building, especially in medical?)
20:21:50 - Kit: OK
20:22:10 - Kit: We'll keep in contact via comm
20:23:13 - Methuslah: Radiation levels appear normal.
20:23:46 - Methuslah: You will need a selection of drugs to complete the revival process - none of which are present.
20:23:49 - Kit: Hey Kraiger. When you get back to what's left of the shuttle, do you think you can wake the xboat pilot as well? I'm afraid we can't let him sleep until Cyan under these circumstances?
20:24:10 - Methuslah: Kraiger - which door are you leaving through, the one you can in or the other one?
20:24:24 - Kit: OK, in that case I'm following the footprints, keeping Kraiger up to date on my position by regular comm calls.
20:25:32 - Kraiger: Well, I'll try and find a cargo bay or some such with the equipment necessary to transport
20:25:37 - Kraiger: the cold berths...
20:26:04 - Methuslah: The footsteps in the other corridor are accompanied by a pair of heavy tracks.
20:26:38 - Kit: Any indication of what made the tracks?
20:27:20 - Methuslah: Some sort of light vehicle.
20:27:27 - Bailey: (If I'm just hanging out in a low berth, I think that I'll go take my kids for a walk and check back next week.)
20:27:35 - Kit: Cargo lifter?
20:28:06 - Kit: 8I'm trying to get you awake for action as soon as possible)
20:29:12 - Methuslah: You think so. It heads down the corridor and turns right.
20:30:10 - Kit: Well Kariger, looks like a lifter and the medical supplies we need were headed the same way. (proceeding to follow tracks)
20:30:50 - Kit: (maybe we find a stash of the necessary medicals on the way??)
20:31:10 - Kraiger: Roger (I'll head back to find Kit)
20:31:43 - Methuslah: The tracks turn to approach a sealed panel on the ground. It appears to be intact, and covered with the familiar plastic seal - and the lifter that made the tracks is sitting next to it, beginnign to corrode but still functional.
20:32:43 - Kit: I knock on the panel with something hard. maybe someone can hear it.
20:34:19 - Methuslah: There is no reponse.
20:34:47 - Kit: OK, then I'll try to open the panel.
20:36:08 - Methuslah: You'll have to make a roll. Kraiger, you have reached Kit.
20:36:28 - Kit: 2D6: 5
20:36:51 - Kraiger: OK, I'll check out the lifter, and head off to the ship to bring the berth back...
20:37:06 - Kit: Well, we have found a lifter, and it seems to be still functional.
20:37:32 - Kit: And I would guess our survivors have hidden down there somewhere.
20:38:01 - Kit: Can you wake up the xboat guy? We may need his help.
20:38:03 - Methuslah: THe panel slowly creaks open. You can see another one beneath, about ten feet down, that appears to be similarly protected, as does the entire pit section. There are ladder rungs in the wall.
20:38:56 - Kit: We should keep this seal closed as much as possible. I'm going down, sealing up behind me. Kraiger, keep contact via comm.
20:39:17 - Methuslah: It will take you about ten minutes to reach the ship. You estimate that the loader will function for perhaps half an hour before failing totally.]
20:40:39 - Kit: (I'll clumb down and seal the hatch behind me. When at the bottom I'll once again bang onto the lower hatch. Maybe there is an answer this time)
20:41:58 - Methuslah: The hatch seals tightly above you. The ladder rungs ares omewhat slippery, but you manage to descend. The lower hatch, however, refuses to open.
20:42:16 - Methuslah: Kraiger, you reach the ship without incident, and find the low berth ready to be transported.
20:42:37 - Kit: Any answer to my banging?
20:43:04 - Kraiger: I'll load up the low-berth. How long will it take to revive the pilot?
20:43:13 - Methuslah: Not yet.
20:43:41 - Kit: Any way to force open the hatch without damaging it?
20:44:52 - Methuslah: Not without prying it open.
20:45:48 - Kit: Ok, I'll band on for a few more minutes. If there is still no reply, I'll start to open the hatch forcefully.
20:46:28 - Kraiger just entered this channel
20:47:19 - Methuslah: The pilot would take maybe half an hour to revive - and you really need a medic on hand to do it. The low berth is loaded on, the antigrav is operational, and you are ready to roll.
20:47:47 - Methuslah: Kit, after a few minutes, you hear a loud whine, as the air begins to cycle - this section has obviously been connected up as an airlock and the air is being cycled.
20:48:14 - Kit: Good. I'll wait.
20:48:33 - Kit: Kraiger, There is a reply to my knock now.
20:51:37 - Kraiger: (OK, leave the pilot for now, and head back to the base) "Kit, coming back with the low-beth, but I can't revive the pilot..."
20:52:38 - Kit: OK, we'll do that later. he should be safe for a while longer. I don't think the berth is gonna give up too soon. I have sealed all metal parts afetr all.
20:53:32 - Kit: I'm in this airlock now and hope to meet the locals soon.
20:53:55 - Methuslah: The lower hatch opens, revealing another set of rungs heading down to a corridor.
20:54:44 - Kit: Anybody to be seen?
20:56:16 - Methuslah: You can see some lights down there, about the right shape to be helmet lights.
20:57:01 - Kit: OK, I'll climb down further until I can make out more.
20:58:14 - Methuslah: When your reach the bottom, you see a pair of spacesuited figures, both weapring Navy spacesuits with 'Medical' section flashes. One of them is holding a wire, and is pointing at the communications outlet of your suit, then pointing back at the wire.
20:59:12 - Kit: I guess he wants to plug into my comm? I'll signal him that that is ok.
20:59:55 - Methuslah: He plugs the wire in.
21:00:03 - Methuslah: "Please identify yourself."
21:00:08 - Kit: (I'll check my scanner for atmospheric composition and radiation)
21:00:24 - Methuslah: Kraiger, you have now about reached the floor panel. The loader is about on its last legs.
21:00:27 - Kit: Baroness Dr Messalina Kitiara of Regina, IISS Reserve
21:01:53 - Methuslah: (Your scanner reveals the air as safe)
21:02:17 - Methuslah: "Sorry, ma'am. Sublieutenant Jorgen Trainer at your service, ma'am."
21:02:39 - Kit: Is there a reason you are suited up? Is the atmosphere dangerous?
21:03:28 - Kraiger: "Hey Kit, we'd better get Stewart out of this thing fast - I don't think I'll be able to get the berth down to you.."
21:05:09 - Kit: I have a comarade up thare (points up) in a malfunctioning low berthe. I ned a few drugs to revive him before the berth is completely eaten up. Can you help me? After that, maybe I can offer some help to you?
21:06:56 - Methuslah: "I know what you will need, ma'am, I will see to it."
21:08:14 - Kit: Thanks. We came to this system with an important message for your commander. We heared that he is on a maneuver and then communication broke down. The shuttle crashed when we landed near the station, corroded. What the hell happened here?
21:08:57 - Methuslah: He runs back into a room and runs out again bearing a medikit, then begins to head up the ladder.
21:09:16 - Methuslah: The other man plugs in a jack of his own.
21:09:31 - Kit: Kraiger, help is coming up through the hatch.
21:09:33 - Methuslah: "The Colonel will explain, ma'am. He'll want to see you and your friends as soon as possible."
21:11:29 - Kit: Sure. The pilot of the shuttle that brought us here is still waiting at the crash site. There is another low berth there with another passenger. In this atmosphere I'm afraid it won't last forever either, so maybe we can send someone to pick them both up?
21:12:46 - Kraiger: I will head down to where Kit is as soon as the medic reaches us)
21:12:59 - Kit: Oh, and do you happen to have a cup of coffe?
21:13:46 - Methuslah: You see the medic climbing out of the top hatch soon after, and he begins to work on the low berth. He points at you and then the hatch.
21:17:49 - Methuslah: "No nonessential itms are allowed - the Colonel has instituted strict rationing."
21:17:59 - Kraiger: (Head on down)
21:18:57 - Kit: Sigh. Coffee IS an essential item. Oh well. I guess I'll have to do without for a while longer.
21:19:47 - Methuslah: Kraiger, you proceed down through the decontamination proceedure, reaching the bottom fairly quickly.
21:19:57 - Methuslah: (Let's see how good the medic is): 2D6: 7
21:20:31 - Kit: Ah, here comes Ltnt Col Kraiger now. Say. Why the suits? What with the atmosphere? It seems safe enough?
21:21:31 - Methuslah: Stewart, you have revived successfully. The medic is bringing out a rescue ball, and inducaiting that you will need to move into the ball quickly - the atmosphere is not safe, and there is no spacesuit - but a few minutes exposure is tolerable.
21:21:55 - Methuslah: "Colonel's orders. Spacesuits must be worn in perimeter areas at all times."
21:22:55 - Kit: Ah I see. Will someone be sent to the crash site of our shuttle to gather the people left there?
21:24:52 - Methuslah: "The Colonel would have to make that decision, ma'am. It might not be safe."
21:25:58 - Kit: Then I think we better talk to the Colonel soon. They cannot stay out there forever. Kraiger? You ready. And what about Steward?
21:30:26 - Methuslah: The medic comes down after a few minutes carrying a transparent oxygen bag, containing Stewart. He unzips the bag after descending to the ground, and Stewart walks out, unharmed.
21:31:42 - Kraiger: (I think Luther took off...)
21:31:49 - Kraiger: OK, lets see the Colonel...
21:31:56 - Kit: Hello Steward. Nice to see you again.
21:38:07 - Kit: OK. I guess we are ready to meet your Colonel now.
21:38:22 - Methuslah: "Come with us."
21:38:43 - Methuslah: The two men turn around and march, as best as they can in spacesuits, down the corridor.
21:38:45 - Kit: (I'll follow)
21:40:38 - Kraiger: (following...)
21:41:18 - Methuslah: The two men march down a corridor, then come to a door at the end, and point at it.
21:42:02 - Kraiger: (through we go...)
21:42:20 - Kit: But I do knock first
21:42:42 - Kit: (nodding a thank you to the two medics as we go)
21:44:23 - Methuslah: The door slides open into a small airlock. A sign saying 'remove your suits' has been placed over a door in the far wall.
21:45:21 - Kit: Well, if they ask us so nicely... (I'll get out of my suit adn store it)
21:46:07 - Kit: (transferring my various tools from the suit to my pockets again)
21:46:39 - Kit: (I'll also get out a pen and add a "please" to the sign)
21:47:19 - Methuslah:
21:50:38 - Kraiger: (Likewise - except for the graftti part! )
21:52:23 - Methuslah: The air tastes strange to you - tasteless and odorless, like every particle of inpruity had been removed.
21:53:15 - Kit: Smells like someone has been thoroughly sterilizing this air here.
21:53:42 - Kit: A distinct lack of... coffee. sigh.
21:55:06 - Kit: Once we are done undressing, I knock on the other door.
21:55:24 - Methuslah: "Come in.", you hear in a lou, barking voice.
21:55:43 - Kit: (opening the door)
21:55:43 - Kraiger: Hmmm - I don't think I'm going to get on well wit this Colonel...
21:56:12 - Kit: Why is that?
21:57:33 - Methuslah: You see a tall, old man of obvious military bearing sitting behind a desk, wearing his full dress uniform and a whole host of medals.
21:58:22 - Kit: Greetings Colonel. Baroness Dr Messalina Kitiara of Regina, IISS reserve.
21:59:26 - Kraiger: (Coming to attention) Colonel, I am Kraiger. Things look a little nasty here...
22:01:58 - Methuslah: The Colonel barks out. "Kraiger what?"
22:05:41 - Kit: (letting a questioning look pass ebtween Kraiger and the Colonel)
22:06:26 - Kit: Colonel. We have come here from Trane with an important message for your commander. Would it be possible to contact him on his maneuver?
22:07:18 - Methuslah: "Break communications silence! Surely you ought to know better."
22:07:56 - Kit: Well sir. I am pretty sure that this special case warrants such a breach. The Zhodani have attacked the empire.
22:07:58 - Kraiger: Colonel, my name is Kraiger. I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Imperial Commandos.
22:08:39 - Kit: I think it is more important that the troops prepare quickly than that they finish their maneuver as planned. Besides. It seems to me that this station has it's own problems.
22:10:55 - Methuslah: "Then why did you not say so, Colonel? Wait - what did you say about the Zhodani?"
22:11:39 - Kit: The Zhodani have declared War on the empire. They attacked at Trane, and that was probably not their only line of advance.
22:13:30 - Methuslah: "It still changes nothing. We have more urgent problems."
22:14:07 - Kraiger: More urgent than war???
22:14:39 - Kit: Maybe recalling the fleet may help you with your problems. What in heven's name happened here?
22:15:23 - Kraiger: Colonel, we must get to Berengaria immediately. We are operating independantly with CSB, and our mission is vital to the security of the empire
22:17:31 - Methuslah: "In case you haven't noticed, this base has been badly damaged. We have to hold out until releif arrives, and defend the base from attack.
22:18:25 - Kit: Colonel, the damage to the base is hard to miss. But it seems to have come from within. We saw no signs of an attack from the outside. What happened?
22:19:04 - Methuslah: A series of alarms begin to go off, and the colonel rises back to his feet.
22:19:15 - Methuslah: "They're attacking again! Follow me!"
22:19:31 - Methuslah: He draws a sidearm, and runs out of the door through which you came.
22:19:48 - Kit: Who is attacking? Please Colonel. What the hell is happening here?
22:20:21 - Kit: Darn. (following him) Kraiger, what do you think of this?
22:20:28 - Kraiger: (Hefting my PGMP and following the Colonel)
22:20:54 - Methuslah: The Colonel has already left through the door.
22:21:04 - Kraiger: (whisper) I have a feeling this guy is suffering from ESD, Extreme Stress Disorder - we'll have to watch him carefully...
22:21:26 - Kit: Somehow I get the feeling that he hasn't even called for relief, all to keep up tha sacred communication silence... stupid.
22:22:01 - Kit: Ok, I'll keep a doctor's eye on him.
22:23:09 - Kit: I wonder who the hell "They" are. Did you notice any sign of combat above? I didn't, just this corrosion stuff.
22:25:41 - Kraiger: None that I could see...
22:26:50 - Kit: Something is certainly wrong here. All that corrosion stuff and now the talk of an attacker..? Strange.
22:32:40 - Kraiger: (Hello?)
22:33:00 - Kit: (did we loose our gm?)
22:33:59 - Methuslah: (Sorry - had an urgent call of nature)
22:34:59 - Kit: we forgive you
22:34:59 - Methuslah: The Colonel has burst out into the corridor, and gathered a group of men around. He is holding up a scanner, which by the noises it is making is going crazy. He is pointing at a space of thin air, and he and his men are aiming at it.
22:36:20 - Kit: (pulling out my scanner) What is happening?
22:36:39 - Kit: Who is attacking?
22:36:51 - Kraiger: (Pick one of the soldiers, and use my best command voice) Soldier, what is it? What are you aiming at?
22:37:08 - Methuslah: "Point your gun, man, they're coming!"
22:37:52 - Kit: Who is "they"?
22:38:17 - Kit: And I'm not so sure firing a pgmp in here would be such a good idea.
22:38:57 - Methuslah: Suddenly a bright flash of light erupts, and what look like a million fireflys buzz out of it. The Colonel and the men are firing reperatedly into the heart of the swarm, taking careful aim, but it seems to be having little effect. Suddenly the swarms burst free, heading right for Kriager and Stewart.....
22:39:01 - Kraiger: Kit, talk to me... what does your scanner show?
22:39:12 - Kit: (can I determine what the hell the Colonel is scanning for?)
22:39:19 - Methuslah: Good game tonight, huh.
22:39:34 - Methuslah: You can't get clear look at the Colonel's scanner.
22:39:41 - Kraiger: (DO I have a shot with the PGMP which won't take out half the crew?)
22:39:51 - Kit: (does my scanner indicate "anything" about these lights?)
22:39:54 - Kraiger: Oh-oh, I smell a cliffhanger
22:40:17 - Methuslah: Your nose is never wrong.
22:40:46 - Kit: Will we play next sunday (easter)?
22:41:14 - Kit: Did the fireflies appear in midair or did they come through a wall?
22:41:50 - Kraiger: I'll be busy next week....
22:42:04 - Kraiger: If we're not going to play, better let Luther know
22:43:06 - Methuslah: You know, it hadn't occured to me. We'd better abort next week's game. I'll post on the list. The fireflies appeared from the heart of the flash.
22:43:32 - Kit: And the flash was in midair, not at a wall?
22:43:53 - Kit: So does my scanner indicate anything? radiation, energy, mass?
22:45:30 - Methuslah: Your scanner indicates nothing unusual.
22:46:52 - Kit: very strange. My scanner doesn't register these thisngs
22:47:06 - Kit: Colonel, what are you scanning for?
22:48:10 - Methuslah: You'll have to wait till the next game - besides, the Colonel is busy firing at the lights.
22:48:24 - Kit: Oh rats.
22:48:33 - Kraiger:
22:48:41 - Kit: Now I'll have to wait two weeks.
22:48:50 - Kraiger: Thanks, excellent game today...
22:49:12 - Kit: Considering that my head is already full of ideas of what this could bee, in two weeks, I will have even more.
22:49:39 - Methuslah: No problem. See you in a fortnight!
